Table of Contents

1. Boku No Hero Academia

So Boku No Hero Academia or My Hero Academia is one of the most popular shows out there.

So if you haven’t seen it, let me tell you a bit about it.

What’s it all about?

You follow a young boy named Izuku. He lives in a world where everyone has a quirk.

You see, a long time ago a disaster hit the Earth, and humans started to power up. Superpowers started to appear, also known as quirks.

There’s a very small percentage of society that don’t have a quirk. And Izuku is one of those few humans on the planet that doesn’t have any powers.

However, Izuku wants to become like All Might, the strongest hero. That’s his idol. But how’s he supposed to do it without a quirk?

Even though Izuku hasn’t got any powers, he’s got the heart and mindset of a top pro hero.

He’s obsessed with studying different quirks and fighting scenarios, jotting them down in his notebook.

How’s it like Black Clover

Asta and Izuku are at 0 on the power scale or at least that’s how the story begins.

They both have major ambitions and have mountains to climb before they can even scratch the surface of that dream.

Both of them are not talented in the slightest, what they have is work ethic. They both have to outwork their competition/rivals.

It’s the classic starting from 0 story done with a twist.

2. Naruto

Naruto

So Naruto is one of those anime that has made it big here in the West.

It’s a long running anime that has been fully completed. If you’ve been on the fence about this series allow me to push you off…

What’s it about?

You follow a young boy called Naruto, he’s pretty much an outcast in the village.

He has no parents and the village doesn’t like him. In fact, he wants to be accepted by them but makes so much trouble because he wants attention.

In the world of Naruto, people have ambitions of becoming a Ninja.

It’s a classic fighting anime with lots of Ninja fights and you get to witness a lot of supernatural powers.

Don’t you both love and those moments when a show hits you in the feels?

You love it because it made you feel something. And you hate it because you realized you still have some human emotions left in you…

…you sick cold freak.

Well Naruto has these hit you in the feel moments… lots of them.

Things aren’t always the way they appear. You never know when a friend will betray you or if they were really your friend in the first place.

One major reason why this show made it big outside of Japan is that it appealed to the masses.

However, as time went on, it appeared less and less to the masses of the West.

WHY?

Because it started to get really mature and bloody. The series starts on a smooth footing and as time goes on, the maturity increases.

And I’m not talking about Kawai girls randomly popping up. But rather people being killed left, right, and center.

Your favorite characters dying and your childhood friend is now trying to take your head off.

How is this similar to Black Clover?

Asta’s life ambition is to become the Wizard King, the ruler of the Clover Kingdom. Naruto is trying to become Hokage, the ruler of the Leaf Village.

They’re both trying to make their societies a better place to live in.

Right now people are stabbing each other in the back and wars are breaking out all over the place.

And these 2 young boys want to become rulers and stop these things from happening.

It’s incredibly similar to Black Clover.

3. Bleach

bleach manga

Ah, yet another popular show.

So what’s this one about?

You follow a high schooler named Ichigo. He’s different from all the others because for some reason he can see ghosts…

…one day he meets a soul reaper named Rukya and accidentally steals her powers.

Now Ichigo is stuck doing Rukya’s job as a soul reaper, fighting evil spirits named hollows.

hollows

These hollows feed by devouring souls and it’s the soul reaper’s job to get rid of these hollows and send the souls to the soul society.

Now, it’s a little bit generic but that’s what makes it great. It’s one of those classic shonen anime and you know you’re going to enjoy it.

Soul reapers carry special swords called zanpakuto. Each zanpakuto has a special ability which makes for unique fights.

zanpakuto

The only downside to this anime is that for some reason, whenever Ichigo is faced with one of the strongest characters ever in the show…

…he’ll always have a giant blast of power for some reason. No idea why but you may or may not like that.

I just thought it got a tad bit annoying. Sure, I just crapped on this show a little, but it’s a damn good show. You should definitely give it a watch.

How’s this similar?

Just like Asta, Ichigo is a 15 year old who starts out incredibly weak. And as time goes on, he, of course, gets stronger…

…if you’re rolling your eyes right now, what did you expect from a shonen anime?

They’re pretty generic but that’s the exact reason why all of us keep coming back from them.

We love the process when the weak go to the strong. (Although Ichigo gets too strong at lightning speed.)

4. Hunter X Hunter

Hunter X Hunter kilua

Not a fan of long running shonen? Then we’d highly recommend Hunter X Hunter. It has 148 episodes.

That’s not enough for the show to start becoming a burden to watch and not too long so it’s nice and lean.

The main character is Gon, a kid who wants to become a hunter. A hunter is actually a job in the world of Hunter X Hunter (if you didn’t guess by the title already).

Hunters mainly get rid of criminals, solve crime, and protect wildlife. Gon goes around the world completing deadly tasks.

WHY?

Because he wants to be able to see his father who left him at a young age.

WHY?

Because his father wanted to pursue his own hunter career. A bit selfish, I know.

In order to become a hunter, a person must complete an exam. Oh, and we’re not talking about a writing exam.

We’re talking about going into the wild and doing some deadly stuff. But it’s pretty damn fun!

During the exam, Gon makes 3 really close friends.

A boy his age named Killua who belongs to a family of assassins. Kurapika who belongs to a mystery clan.

And Leorio who’s life ambition is to become a doctor and save lives.

This is a super fun arc to watch and one of a few epic arcs. This anime is super weird but in a really good way.

One moment, this show is a classic tournament anime, the next it’s a fantasy gaming anime. And the next it’s a thriller crime solving show.

This show has so much to offer, I feel spoiled.

Its variety is one of its greatest strengths. At the beginning of the show, it’s a very lighthearted anime. Later on, it gets really dark.

There’s just so much to this show.

How’s it like Black Clover?

It’s similar in the sense that you get to see a lot of character development.

During the first half, it’s lighthearted with a good amount of serious moments thrown in.

And in the second half, characters have almost done a 180. One of the reasons why we love Black Clover is because of the characters.

Well in this show you could argue they do a better job.

5. 7 Deadly Sins

This show has been skyrocketing in popularity and I’ll tell you why…

What’s it about?

The holy kingdom of Britannia has gone through a take over by the holy knights. The soldiers of Britannia.

The King and 1 one of his daughters have been imprisoned.

The blame for all this chaos was put on the kingdom’s strongest knights, the seven deadly sins

Elizabeth, one of the king’s daughters, believes this whole thing to be fake and she escapes the Kingdom. In search for the 7 deadly sins.

Eventually she finds Meliodas, the former captain of the sins. And the 2 of them set off to find the rest of the sins to save the kingdom.

One of the things that separates this show from other Shonen is the main character, Meliodas.

He’s already insanely strong. No training needed for him.

How’s this similar to Black Clover?

It’s difficult to make a direct correlation between the 2 shows. Asta is training his butt off whilst Meliodas can annihilate anyone.

The similarity between the 2 is a feeling. Yes, a bloody feeling. It gives the same vibes. Both shows are like popcorn.

You’re munching away and before you know it, you’re out. It’s a show that’s very lean and the episodes get to the point.

We highly recommend you give this a watch.

6. Fullmetal Alchemist

Fullmetal Alchemist

This anime is dark… very dark.

What’s it about?

You follow 2 brothers named Edward and Alphonse Elric. From a young age, their father left and their mother was left to take care of both of them.

It was a lot of hard work and their mother ended-up dying whilst both of them were at a very young age.

This is when the brothers became obsessed with alchemy (the law of equivalent exchange).

They wanted to bring back their mother so they needed to give up something that was equivalent to a human life.

So what was equivalent to a human life according to the brothers?

It was comprised of Water (35 L), Carbon (20 kg), Ammonia (4 L), Lime (1.5 kg), Phosphorous (800 g), Salt (250 g), Saltpeter (100 g), Sulfur (80 g), Fluorine (7.5 g), Iron (5 g), Silicon (3 g) and fifteen traces of other elements.

This was all the raw materials that made a human.

As they tried to resurrect their mother, Edward lost an arm and a leg whilst Alphonse lost his entire body.

Edward actually managed to encase Alphonse’s soul into a suit of armor.

That night, the brothers learned that nothing was equal to a human life.

The brothers embark on a journey to transform themselves back.

Both of them want all their body parts back and they believe the philosopher’s stone will allow them to do this.

An ancient relic from the past.

This anime deals with a lot of tragedy but it also has some comedic moments.

The comedic moments are done right and don’t feel forced unlike a lot of anime out there.

How’s it similar to Black Clover?

This is similar in the sense of the journey. Asta and the Elric brothers have a long way to go and it’s incredible seeing them on their journey.

So if you want a show that brings on some Black Clover nostalgia, give this show a try.

7. Dragon Ball Z

Ok, so this is a pretty weird one. However, it does share a surprising amount of similarities.

If you want something over the top, then this might be a show for you.

What’s it about?

Now, you may have heard of this show but not know what it’s about.

Put simply, you’re following a guy named Goku and he wants to get stronger simply for the sake of it.

Ultra Instinct Goku

Not to avenge someone or to become some leader but simply for the joy of fighting.

Goku will fight anyone, even a God. Now, as someone who has watched Dragon Ball for a long time, I will admit it gets repetitive.

It seems like the only people who enjoy this show are old fans who were introduced to this show as children and have now grown up but still watch it.

Or, it’s simply children who are being exposed to this show for the first time.

It’s kinda hard to get into after you’ve passed your childhood. That’s why this show is a hit or miss.

If you know you won’t like it, just forget I even mentioned it. However, if you’re on the fence, try giving it a shot.

Conclusion

So those were the best list of anime like Black Clover.
