Are you looking for a gaming PC that will last 5 years?
Well you’ve come to the right place because that’s exactly what we’ll be going over in this post.
This gaming PC will be able to run games today on high settings at 60fps consistently.
The goal is to build a PC that will still be able to run games by the end of its 5 years at mostly high settings. You won’t have to turn everything down.
It’s a PC that will run at a 1080p resolution (also 1440p).
Why did you go with a PC with 1080p in mind?
HERE’S THE DEAL:
Gaming at 1440p is fantastic. However, your eyes get used to it and it loses that wow factor.
You won’t appreciate the resolution as much as you used to.
For example, when we were able to upgrade to HD graphics that was first 720p, we were in awe.
Now we find that resolution unplayable and terrible.
WHY?
Because we upgraded to 1080p and that became the norm. The same will apply when you make another resolution jump.
However, you will still be able to play games on this PC at 1440p at a smooth frame rate.
All without having to completely downgrade in-game graphics options.
Just don’t expect it to last 5 years running the latest games at max setting at 1440p.

RTX 2070 Super Gaming OC 8G Graphics Card

GPU power
This graphics card has proven itself in benchmarks against multiple other GPUs at the same price.
The majority of the time it wins. So you know you’re getting the best performance graphics card in its price range.
Many PC gaming influencers have talked incredibly positively about the RTX 2070 like LinusTechTips.
Of course, the graphics card is the most crucial component in a gaming PC.
so most of the build has been about researching the GPU and trying to allocate as much of the budget towards it.
8gb
8gb is plenty of space for your video RAM. Most games don’t use more than 5gb of video memory.
Leaving you a good amount of buffer space for the future.
Video memory affects the textures in games so it’s critical to have enough.
Most people see the biggest difference in PC gaming VS console gaming is the textures.
When you see simple items in games like walls, they’re loaded in by textures.
3 fans
There are 3 fans on this graphics card to keep it cool.
There are also 6 heat pipes that also help dissipate the heat from the graphics card.
Ultimately, keeping your graphics card cool helps preserve its life span and performance.
I remember having a graphics card that started to overheat and it made my games lag so much to the point I had to get rid of it.
1 x HDMI, 3 x DisplayPort
You can easily connect this to multiple monitors via the HDMI and display port options.

Processor
Intel core i7

Plenty of computing power
Do you remember a time where a 4 core processor would destroy any game out there?
Well I do.
But it’s not the same with the titles that have come out in the past few years.
When you switch from the 4 core processor to an 8 core processor, you can easily get a 30% increase in FPS.
In some games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, we’ve seen a 90% increase in FPS!
That’s insane. Picking the right processor is more important than ever before.
We’ve gone with an Intel i7 8 processor.
This is plenty for games today and in 5 years’ time it will be sure to keep up.
We did not go with a 10 core or 12 core processor because there was only a minor increase in FPS and a major increase in price. It’s just not worth it.
Do more cores mean you’ll get more frames? No. Cores and gigahertz work together.
As I mentioned, upgrading from an 8 core CPU to a 10 or 12 core does not give you more frames.
This is because developers don’t need to fully utilize that many cores to max out the game.
Also, with cores are gigahertz, there’s a lot of theory that goes into them.
You’re better off looking at benchmarks to determine the true value of it in actual games.
Overclock
This is an intel K series, meaning you can go ahead and overclock it.
This is brilliant to help with future titles in case you need that boost in performance.
It’s pretty easy to overclock a CPU these days.
Developers used to hate it when people would overclock their chip and make the warranty invalid if you overclock.
But these days they don’t mind and even encourage it because it’s pretty safe and easy to do.

RAM
16gb Corsair Vengeance

Plenty of space
16gb is more than enough for gaming. When you add more RAM to your rig, there’s no difference in games whatsoever.
Maybe, just maybe you’ll get a 1 FPS increase in certain a game. But is that worth it? I don’t think so.
I remember the time when 8gb would be more than enough for games.
But with titles in recent years, we see an average of a 25% increase in games. That’s a significant increase when it comes to RAM.
Some people get a new graphics card just to see that kind of boost.
3200mhz
This ram is 3200mhz which is plenty of speed. The game will be able to run tasks quickly and smoothly.
Upgradable
If games end up taking more RAM in the future, you can easily upgrade it.
These sticks are 8gb each and the motherboard has 4 RAM slots. So you can slot in another two super easily.

SSD
240gb Kingston SSD

Super speed
You’ve probably heard how great SSDs are and the hype is indeed real.
SSDs are on average at least 7x faster than a hard drive. That’s a major speed increase.
It makes the whole PC gaming experience much better without the need for increasing the FPS.
Plenty of space for the OS
This 240gb SSD was not intended to store your game. We’ve included it to install your operating system on (Windows).
Navigating in and out of your games and browsing is much smoother.
Windows won’t take all the space so you’ll have some space to install some applications that you enjoy using.
Quiet
Because there are no moving parts in an SSD, it’s completely silent.
The last thing you want is to hear a jet engine when playing a game like the PS4. It’s insane how much noise that thing makes.
More reliable
Because of the no moving parts there’s an extra benefit of the SSD being more reliable.
I’ve had to deal with a hard drive going faulty and it’s an incredibly frustrating experience.
You’ll be pleased to know that SSDs have a very low failing rate.

Hard drive
4tb 7200rpm hard drive

Plenty of space
Games these days can easily take up to 50gb a piece.
That’s why a large hard drive is necessary, especially if you’re planning to store 5 years’ worth of games on it.
We’ve gone with a 4tb hard drive which is plenty for most people.
If you feel like you’ll need more space, you can easily go for the 6tb or 8tb model.
Fast
This drive operates at 7200rpm which isn’t as fast as an SSD but it’s above the average speed of a hard drive.
You don’t want to be waiting all day for your games to load and this won’t keep you waiting.
Five-year limited and two-year Rescue Data Recovery Services
If this drive fails, you get a 5 year warranty and a 2 year rescue service that will help you retrieve the data.
This is great because you don’t have to worry about this drive failing and feeling like you wasted money and all your data.
Affordable
When researching we were surprised at how cheap this drive was.
You get lots of space, a good amount of speed, and years of warranty at a very affordable price.

CPU cooler
Hyper 212 EVO

cools down components
The Hyper 212 EVO is by far the most popular CPU cooler out there today.
It’s been out for many years and people are still using it in new builds.
People are even choosing cases with this cooler in mind, that’s how good it is.
There are 4 heat pipes that directly connect to your processor.
This helps distribute the heat and blow the hot air out of the case. The fan is at a decent size where it’s able to gather a good amount of hot air to expel.
reliable
As I mentioned above, this CPU cooler was released many years ago and people are still using it in new builds.
That has to because it performs well and is incredibly reliable. You don’t have to worry about this failing.
quiet
This has a very quiet fan unless you of course decide to ramp up the speed to 100%.
Then it will be pretty loud. But we doubt it will need to do that unless you deliberately set the fans to 100%.

Power supply
Corsair 850w power supply

Reliable
Don’t ever skip out on buying a really good power supply.
Gamers seem to think that because the power supply doesn’t increase your FPS, you don’t need to pay much attention to it.
WRONG! You absolutely do need to pay attention to it.
Arguably more attention than any other component because it’s the heart of your rig.
If this fails so will the rest of the system. It’s the thing that gives it life.
We’ve specifically chosen Corsair because they’re a well known brand.
I’ve personally gotten Corsair power supplies in the past and never had an issue. It’s a reputable and reliable brand.
Plenty of power
850w is more than enough to give this system a consistent amount of power.
Even if you’re overclocking, all your components, there’s still plenty of power left.
Modular
This is a fully modular power supply.
Meaning you can attach and detach the wires on this.
This helps massively when it comes to airflow.
You see, with a non-modular power supply, you don’t have a choice to put the wires you’re not using in the case.
It blocks a lot of the air flow and makes your PC look like a mess.
